2010:As we move into 2010, we'll begin by finishing the two houses on 37th Terrace that we began building at the end of 2009.
One big project for 2010 will be renovations of vacant and foreclosed homes through the Kansas City NSP (Neighborhood Stabilization Program). Homes will be identified and renovations scheduled on an on-going basis throughout the year. Our goal is to stay in neighborhoods where we've been working over the last few years and where we're looking to build in the next few years so that our homeowners will have other Habitat families nearby.
We're very excited to have another Women Build project for 2010. This year's theme will be "Women In Advocacy" and our committee is co-chaired by two local women leaders, Kansas City Councilwoman Cindy Circo and Jackson County Legislator Theresa Garza Ruiz. We hope to start construction in mid-June, if fundraising goals are met.
Another big project for the year will be a small subdivision on 66th Terrace where we'll be putting in a short one-way street and building five houses on the block. Due to the infrastructure and new scope of work for us on this project, construction of the houses has not yet been scheduled but we anticipate work to begin in the summer.
