Women Build is a program through Habitat for Humanity International that promotes the involvement of women in the eradication of poverty housing by working on the construction of Habitat houses. Women Build projects provide low-income families with decent, affordable homes and an opportunity for women to learn construction in a supportive, encouraging and empowering environment.
Habitat KC continually thanks Kansas City Councilwoman Cindy Circo & Jackson County Legislator Theresa Garza for their leadership in the 2010-2011 "Women in Advocacy" program. If you are a woman who advocates for housing, children, women, the arts, etc. we want you to be involved!
Buy a t-shirt! We've got these great t-shirts (shown left, modeled by AmeriCorps member Heather) - $12 each or 2 for $20. Proceeds go towards the Women Build house, so show off your Girl Power! Pay online or buy when you're out volunteering.
Host a fundraiser at your home/church or with your organization - get your girlfriends, family and coworkers together and tell them about this project. Habitat staff and committee members can attend and may be able to help you put something together.
Gather a team to fundraise and volunteer on the project. Raise at least $1,000 all together and your group will get t-shirts and priority scheduling on the volunteer calendar. Volunteering on Women Build projects is always popular and space is limited so this is a great way to get your group their preferred date.
Volunteer. Help us complete the 5th Women Build house in Kansas City's urban core. To sign up or find out more information, email Dana or call 816.924.1096 x 101. We're not just looking for construction volunteers - we'll also need people to provide lunches and/or snacks to folks on site and a group of women to plan the house blessing at the end of the build.
Thank you for giving another Kansas City family a home of their own and empowering women in the process!
