Serve your Neighbor. Serve your community. Serve your country. www.nationalservice.gov

We are proud to have AmeriCorps members serving here!

AmeriCorps National members work in construction, volunteer services, and family services assisting staff and volunteers while "getting things done" in the work to eradicate poverty housing with Habitat affiliates all across the United States.  Here in Kansas City we're excited to have four members currently serving:

Michele Duley, Family Services Assistant
Alex Gustafson, Construction Assistant
Darren St. Thomas, Construction Assistant
Emily Ulm, Volunteer Services Assistant

AmeriCorps is made up of several different programs for all ages where members give their time to serve their country and better their community while receiving a modest living stipend (about $800 per month after taxes) from the federal government.

Our National Direct members typically serve for 11 months, September - July.  In 2010, HFHI is experimenting with an additonal service term that runs from February thru December.  All members who serve with Habitat affiliates are required to work together on a community service project, attend a Leadership Conference and do a spring "Build-a-thon" with other Habitat AmeriCorps members from across the country.  When their terms are completed, all AmeriCorps members receive an education award of $4725 that can be used to pay for college or to pay off education loans that have already been accrued.

Would you like to serve your community & country in this way? Contact Dana for information about next year's positions or see www.americorps.gov for specifics about each of the programs.
