How to Volunteer

The process to volunteer is simple:

(1) Please complete our online interest form (by clicking the green "volunteer" button in the upper right of the screen), or call 816-924-1096 and let us know what your basic interests are. We'll need to know if you're interested in volunteering as an individual or bringing a group, which days of the week you're available and when you'd like to start.  If you're completing community service hours for court or school, please let us know how many hours you need to complete and your deadline.

(2) Schedule and attend a volunteer orientation.  All individual volunteers & group leaders are required to attend; we ask group leaders to then share the information with the rest of their group members.  While at orientation, you will be asked to complete an application. If you'd like, you can download this document in advance on the "forms and resources" page in this section.  Orientations are held several times a month on Saturday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. You can check our calendar for upcoming orientation dates, but we can only fit a certain number of people in each session so we ask you to sign up with the volunteer department at least 24 hours in advance.

All construction volunteers should also take this online safety training. It takes about 30 minutes, including a quiz to verify that you understand the information. When you pass, a certificate is emailed to our volunteer dept. and we will soon begin requiring this training before allowing you on site.

(3) Schedule your first volunteer day. The volunteer department will be happy to work with you by phone or email to schedule your day(s), whether in the office or out on the construction sites.  Please note that we have many groups looking to schedule days with us, and individual volunteers fill in with smaller groups.  The earlier you can schedule, the better your chance of getting the dates you want.  Saturdays are especially popular and may require several months advance notice.
