Orientation and Scheduling

Habitat for Humanity Kansas City requires that all volunteers new to the organization attend a volunteer orientation.  (Group leaders are required to attend as a representative of their group.)  Orientations last about an hour and are held about 4 times a month, generally every other Saturday afternoon, and every other Tuesday evening, at our office.  Please check our calendar or call to confirm dates and times.

Space in each session is limited, so those interested in attending an orientation should contact our Director of Volunteer Services at least 48 hours in advance of the orientation they wish to attend.

Once you have completed the orientation, you are ready to get on the volunteer schedule.  All you need to do is call or email the volunteer department to schedule your shift.  If you prefer, we would be happy to put you on a set schedule.  Either way, scheduling allows us to ensure we have the proper materials, staff available to work with you, and that the number of people on site will allow everyone to be safe.  Our goal is to make sure each volunteer has a rewarding and fulfilling experience.

Volunteers can schedule work on the construction sites Wednesday - Saturday, and a day typically lasts from 8 am until about 3:30 pm.  Saturdays are the most often requested and therefore require more advanced notice.  Office volunteers can schedule for times during office hours, which are Tuesday - Saturday 8 am - 4:30 pm. Committee members and other volunteers' shifts will vary.
